Gig Description
My partner and I are both working from home full-time and looking for part-time in-home care for our 7-month old daughter.
Job duties
•Feeding: Preparing and serving one breakfast meal in the morning, preparing formula and feeding on-demand in bottles and straw cups throughout the day
•Nap Time: Putting baby down for two naps (one around 9:30/10am and another at 1:30/2pm)
•Diaper Changes: Diaper changes as needed throughout the day
•Activities and Teaching: Guiding the baby through developmentally appropriate activities throughout the day (e.g., singing songs, playing with toys, games, reading books, etc.). Teaching words, gestures, baby sign language, etc. and helping baby meet developmental milestones (she is currently learning to walk!)
•Light Housekeeping: housekeeping duties will be limited to tasks associated with child-care including taking out diaper trash bag, cleaning up dishes/high-chair after breakfast, putting toys away, changing crib sheets, washing and folding baby clothes, etc.
Working Environment
•This position is located in Brightwood/Manor Park in DC
•We will be working the entire time and will make it so we are out of your hair but unfortunately we live in a small (700 sq. ft) condo with no dedicated space for childcare activities. As a result, our workspaces may overlap with where the baby is (e.g., living room, kitchen). Please make sure you’ll feel comfortable working in overlapping spaces with us around.
•There are two cats in the home that will be in close proximity
Experience Requested
•Infant CPR certified
•More than 6 months of formal/paid experience working with newborns/infants either for a family directly or in a childcare center. Experience caring for siblings/family members will not be considered (although it is important work too)
•Understanding of infant development principles and developmental milestones
•High School Diploma or GED, further certification or training is a plus
Hours and Pay
•We are looking for someone to work a 8am – 4pm shift two workdays per week. We can accommodate any two weekdays that work best. However, because of our work schedules we do not have much flexibility with the hours.
•Pay is between $18/hr and $22/hr commensurate with experience
COVID-19 Precautions
•As a disclosure – all three of us were sick in July 2020 with COVID-19
•We follow CDC recommended guidelines (we don’t eat at restaurants, limit grocery store trips, wear masks at all times outside, don’t hang out in close proximity to people outside of the household, etc.) but given the nature of this work we will not require masks, temperature checks, or regular COVID-19 testing (unless you prefer, we are happy to do any of these if you’d like)
Next Steps
•Please send a resume with contact information and work experience for consideration
•We will contact qualified candidates to arrange a virtual interview and then we’d like to have a 4-hour in-home interview where we can ensure a good match with our baby (and with us!). The in-home interview will be paid at $20/hour.
•Selected candidates will be asked to consent to a background check and will be asked to provide at least two professional references
•We are looking for someone to start asap
