Last February 24, I noticed my approx. 14 year old Carrier Infinity Gas Furnace was leaking water at the whole house humidifier. I immediately unplugged the humidifier and cleaned up the water. Later that evening, I noticed that it was getting cold in the house. Upon checking on the furnace, it was giving me an error code (I apologize, I cannot remember if it was error code 31 or 33). While my brother is not an HVAC tech (he is a hardware/ software engineer), he came over late that night and he determined that there was an issue with the furnace control board. I located a used one via EBAY and drove out to Philly the next morning to pick up as temps were below freezing. After replacing the board, the system was still having communication issues, so we by-passed the whole house humidifier to get heat working. The system was also causing the fan to run all the time, so a family friend recommend an HVAC person. Unfortunately they did not have experience with the Carrier Infinity system. The Tech found something that he did not think was working regarding zones 1 and 2, so he moved them to empty zones 3 and 4. While this did allow for heat and a/c to operate, seems like that the system is having to work incredibly hard to heat or cool the second floor. From my perspective the dampners are not operating correctly, which results in an unnecessary amount of airflow created in the furnace to attempt to heat or cool the second level and resulting in uneven temps on all 3 levels. The HVAC tech who did inspect stated that he felt like the physical components of the system were still good (as the reason he did not recommend replacing); however, he believed it to just me a communication issue. I am not sure if is something as simple as programming, but has been frustrating. I am need of someone that knows the Carrier Infinity system to determine if a repair can be performed or if the system is in need of replacement. I would rather repair if possible.
