Need gaps on the sides of our outdoor steps filled in

We want the gaps on the sides of each steps filled in with foam, filler, concrete or something to prevent water from going inside and underneath into the gravel and soil plus keeping debris like sticks. leaves, dirt etc. Also need joints in the steps, patio filled in with grey Polymeric sand.
