Frig/ Freezer Issues

My frig gets cold, but not as cold as it should when I have it all the way turned up. My freezer doesn’t freeze anything. It only stays cool. This was going on for about a month. Then my aunt told me to put a cup of water in the freezer. I did that a couple of days later it was frozen a couple of days later, it was unthaw and the freezer was back to not freezing.
